Celebrating Community and New Beginnings

A Week to Remember: School Starts and Celebrations Galore
This past week has been a whirlwind of excitement as we embraced the start of the school year. From the buzz of the classrooms to the fun of community events, it truly felt like a time to celebrate! One of the highlights was participating in Austin's Pride Parade, where I witnessed the vibrant spirit of our community coming together. There’s something invigorating about walking alongside friends, families, and allies, all united to celebrate love and acceptance.
Connecting with the Community: A Chance to Give Back
During my week, I also had the wonderful opportunity to meet with local PTA leaders in training. It’s inspiring to see so many passionate individuals coming together to enhance our children's education. We shared ideas, best practices, and, most importantly, a vision for making our schools a nurturing environment for every student. It’s essential that we support our teachers, and as a community, we can uplift their incredible efforts.
Welcoming Families at Bowie High School
This week culminated with Bowie High School's amazing welcoming event, “Bulldogs & Hot Dogs.” It was heartwarming to see so many families, friends, and educators come together. I felt a deep sense of gratitude as I greeted familiar faces from the school, the PTA, and various community organizations, including Oak Hill YSA and Menchaca OYSC. It's always a joy to network with others who share the same commitment to our students' success.
A Day in the Classroom and Reflecting on Parent-Child Connections
On a personal note, my days are filled with reflection and gratitude, especially as I substitute teach at a middle school. Each day, I walk away thinking about the monumental lift our teachers provide. Their dedication and tireless love for our students never cease to amaze me. On Friday, we celebrated surviving our first full week with breakfast tacos—a delicious reward!
As a mother, I also had a unique moment this week. My 18-year-old son, now a substitute as well, and I shared a special conversation in our kitchen. Hearing his insights about being in the classroom brought me immense joy and pride. Those simple 1:1 moments are treasures that leave my heart brimming with love. Our week was indeed filled with community spirit, celebration, and heartfelt connections—what a wonderful way to launch the new school year!
